Custom Bow Roller Emergency

There was nothing on the shelf big enough for this anchor!

Over engineered was the aim of the game. A little extra weight won't hurt this old girl.

We had a gigantic request this week to try and fit this 40kg anchor and anchor winch to the fordeck of a house boat. There was nothing available locally and the most suitable bow rollers online were for up to 30kg only. I've had some experience welding as a hobby and decided to make one up.

The greatest hurdle here was getting the shank of the anchor to pass under the stainless rail. There further out you go the flatter the shank becomes but the weaker the frame becomes. After some careful trigonometry we decided on the correct shape and started cutting.

A customer bow roller frame deserves customer rollers. We made these in the lathe with UV treated Nylon with Bonze Bushes. If the nylon ever wears out it will take 5 minutes to make another set

After fabrication and paint, the new bow roller assembled like a treat. With in no time the anchor system was fully functional as expected.
